Because this is after all a vampire school, classes will be held at
night like on the present-time Mount Olympus Grammar School.
Location:
The main building with most classrooms and the cafeteria is located
in the middle of a lake on a small island. It’s a gigantic manor with five
floors and two underground floors looking like a mix between a fortress
and castle. The walls are snow-white - or at least they’re white after
the summer holidays when the manor was renovated – and at some places decorated
with mosaics.
There is a nice atrium that goes from the first floor to the top floor
in the middle of the building. It's not only a pretty place, but it's also
a nice place to relax, meet friends and study if you don't feel like ferrying
over in breaks. And that's probably the smartest thing you can do if you
don't have much free time between your classes since the ferrymen are so
moody and enjoy making people wait who're in a hurry.
The cafeteria is a strange place. It goes over three floors, always
bordering on the atrium, but the size varies. Also, on the first floor
it's like a restaurant, you're being served and can pick from a menu, on
the third floor there is only a self-service restaurant and you have to
pick between three menus of the day and on the second floor is both. But
for breakfast is on all floors a buffet. The only difference is that on
the first floor waitresses and waiters are around to take your orders if
you want something special, on the third you have to make do with what
you get. Whatever you order, you always have to pay for the food since
in Mount Olympus' fee only lodging is included, no board.
On the grounds around the lake are the manor-houses sprawled where the students are living and some others school buildings, like gyms.
There is also a small kiosk on the grounds. The kiosk has some small stuff like sweets, snacks, ointments against sunburns, underwear, toothpaste and whatever else the students might have forgotten and need. But since it's a school-owned kiosk they naturally won't have items like alcohol or cigarettes. And if you want to order some item of a special brand, first make sure that this brand did already exist in the time your characters are in.
Because of the large distances you often have to cross to get from your
manor-house or the main cafeteria to the classroom where you have the next
class and the dependency on the boats to ferry across the lake you're ill-advised
to leave for class at the last minute. It's difficult to be on time even
when you leave early because you can easily spend a quarter of a hour or
longer waiting at the quay.
At rush hour, like in the evening, when the vast majority of the 900
students wants to get at the same time onto the island for breakfast and
classes, you'll be waiting for a long, long time. So the best thing you
can do is avoid such rush hours. As in, stand up early and ferry over the
lake before the rest of the school does, then you can grab a breakfast
while your favourite food is still available and when the crowd comes in
you're in the atrium relaxing with your friends or doing your homework.
But be careful that you don't want to ferry over when everyone else
is in bed. The ferrymen often insist on waiting until the boat is full
up. Then you better prepare for a long, long wait...
Once the present grounds of Mount Olympus belonged to the family Grey
and were Grey Manor. But when Donna Grey became headmistress of Mount Olympus
and the school needed a new home she allowed them to use her manor. Since
she had no descendants and was a widow, she decreed in her will that the
manor was given to Mount Olympus Public School after her death. Since then,
more than 200 years ago, MT is using the manor grounds and Eric’s extensive
lands around them (he owns half the county and it’s even his realm).
